Detoxification: Liver and Onions Part 3

Hi Folks!

I'm on week three of my pre flush regimen.  So far so good!  I have not experienced any debilitating detox symptoms like in the past.  I started having headaches last week for about 5 days straight.  I think the toxins were getting loose and  revved up! I increased my water intake and hopefully flushed them out.

I also have less bloating and can fit into pants that I was not able to wear just two weeks ago!!!!! Awesome sauce!!!

I've  added probiotics back in to my regimen because the bloating I was experiencing prior to starting the flush was connected to my gut flora being out of control.  Probiotics help put the gut flora back into balance and decrease the daily bloating (gas forming) parties that bad bacteria like to have.  Ever seen your belly grow 3 more sizes through out the day leaving you feeling like a pig in a blanket?   Well that was me.

Gut bacteria

I've also been taking a natural supplement that helps move my bowels.  When you detox, toxins are eliminated from your body by various mechanisms.....bowel movements are one way.  And since the liver is an important part of digestion, you have to keep the bowels moving.  This is another product  from Herbal Bush House I've added to my daily regimen.

Natural colon cleanser: cape aloe leaf, barberry root, cascara sagrada (say whaaat??), garlic bulb, rhubarb, black walnut, cayenne pepper

My cravings for refined sugar have decreased and I'm able to quench my sweet tooth with fruit and hibiscus and cinnamon tea.  Alright now!!  I'm taking baths 2-3 times per week, exercising regularly, consuming more living foods and dry brushing my skin.  Overall I've been able to clean up my diet and I'm excited about the second part of the flush although I'm still a bit leery of what detox symptoms I may face.

Stay tuned!! :)

Peace and love!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!  My hope is that we will ALL have a prosperous, healthy, productive, joyous, strength filled, courageous, satisfying year.

Since I have started this journey, I've learned more about myself than I could have ever imagined.  I've learned more about my weaknesses, my strengths, why I struggle with certain things so much, and what REALLY makes me tick.

I've learned to love better, be more patient, exhibit self control (even when I don't want to) and I know what TRUE kindness really is.

God has ushered me into a new year.  For that I am thankful.  My work on this earth is not finished yet.

I have no resolutions.  I just want to be a better mother, wife, sister, aunt, niece, granddaughter, daughter, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, friend, and co-worker.  I've been enlightened on how to be better.  Now it's up to me to take the bull by the horns and fulfill the revelation.  It's time for me to kick fear and uncertainty out of my life! For good!

I must not rely on my five senses to lead me.  I have to rely on the still small voice of God to guide me.  That has been my main struggle this year - letting my common sense rule the day, instead of God's all knowing Spirit.  It's a new day and I'm grateful for another chance to get it right.  Good bye fear! Hello courage!

Are you all with me???

Thanks for supporting me this past year.  Blogging has been a new experience for me, and I've loved every minute of it.  I'm hoping to grow The Natural Journey For Life in 2014.  So stay on for the ride!

Peace and love!

What is REAL Food??

When I listen to the debate about GMO labeling (Genetically Modified Organisms) for our "food" supply I can't help but get a little perturbed.  The USA has some pretty strict labeling rules and regulations around nutrients and ingredients.  By law YOU MUST have a clear, legible ingredient list,  the proper nutrient analysis and food allergen information.  So if you're diabetic, you would avoid the foods that are high in sugar and fat.  Due to all the industrial ingredients used today you would be surprised at how much sugar and fat some "foods" actually contain.  So you READ LABELS to help keep you and your family educated on what you're eating and safe -  especially if you have any food allergies.

So why is the GMO labeling issue getting pushed under the rug? If we need to know the nutrient content of our foods, why not know if what we are eating has been genetically modified or engineered? Washington, Connecticut and California have all tried to pass a GMO labeling regulation.  None have succeeded to date.

GMOs are plants/animals that have been engineered to have certain properties that are not natural to that particular plant/animal.  Let's take tomatoes as an example: tomatoes naturally have seeds.  But some varieties have been engineered to not contain seeds.  Have you ever had a seedless tomato...or a seedless grape? Here are some other reasons plants are genetically modified:

1. To be resistant to pests
2. To be able to grow in various climates
3. To enhance appearance
4. To have a longer shelf life
5. To have a higher harvesting yield

The debate on whether or not to add another piece of information to "food" labels is clear cut.  The fact that big industry does not want to do it tells me that most, if not all, food has been modified in some way.  I have eaten GMO food before. When I open a box of my favorite breakfast cereal, eat popcorn at the movies and drink that oh so good slurpee.  I really just want to KNOW what I'm putting in my body!  So now, if there is no organic sticker on my packages...I ASSUME it's been made with GMO plants....and that's a pretty safe assumption to make.  Most of the time I buy food labeled: "organic" to avoid GMO food.  But I have my favorite guilty pleasures that I know contain modified ingredients. The big GMO crops in the USA are corn, soy, wheat, and rice.

So what is REAL food?  Food modified to grow and taste differently or food that has been grown in a suitable natural environment free of chemicals and alterations???

I'm with this guy...Just tell me what I'm eating!

Tell me what you think REAL food is.

The Health Journey: 11 Natural Ways to Eliminate Stress

If you are like me, there is a lot going on in your life.  Stress can really zap you. I do not find pleasure in taking pills nor do I want to be medicated.  Frankly I am just fed up with feeling crazed!  In this Journey I've discovered some natural ways to remove stress from my life.  Remember, there is always a simple natural alternative. It may be different and take longer to see results, but it’s worth it.  Oh…and did I mention economical?

11 Natural Ways to Eliminate Stress:

1.     Eliminate the effect of foolishness on your mind.  You cannot control people, but you can control how they affect you. Turn the volume down on the outside "noise" or mute it altogether.  (free)

2.      Pray/meditate. (free)

3.     Find ways to RELAX: bubble baths, massage therapy, aroma therapy. My favorite essential oils for relaxation are: lavender, chamomile and sage.

4.    Have fun! Watch funny TV shows or movies, go to comedy shows, and hang out with amazingly positive people who are invested in your well-being.  This means there will be no drama or sharing of conversations with anyone who has no right to be in your business (!!!).  (mostly free)

Amazing friends work wonders for eliminating stress

5.     Get involved in things outside yourself: volunteer for a cause.  Make sure you are helping somebody with something EVERYDAY. (could be free)

6.     Re-awaken the hobbies or activities you REALLY ENJOY.  Reading, crafts, travel, etc.

7.      Get in the gym or on the track, trail, tennis court, kick ball field, or roller skating rink…. and work it out!  Allow your body to release endorphins that will put some pep in your step and calm your nerves.

Cricket???

 8.    Don’t let your undies get in a bunch and don’t sweat the small stuff.  If your undies are always bunched up or you find yourself sweating too much….evaluate how you are reacting to people and situations around you.  I consider myself a “reactor”.  I react in some way shape or form (internally or externally to EVERYTHING).  I am learning to TRULY pick my battles and to be less reactive. Thank you Lord!  It’s so much easier this way.  I feel more balanced.  You will still have to address pertinent issues…but the situations will be more controlled. (free)

9.  Eliminate/Manage stress factors:  You know what the stress factors are in your life.  I know what mine are, and I have to manage them in order to be sane. (free) Some examples include:
  •  Crazy drama filled friends – who needs the extra drama? Just watch SCANDAL J
  • Pressure from work - set boundaries so you don’t lose your mind or over commit.
  • Hyper children - do not feed them any sugar, make sure they have a well-balanced diet and are in bed as early as possible.  That leaves more down time for you and provides an opportunity to get other things done.

10.   EAT GOOD, NOURISHING FOOD.  This tip is in capital letters because we don’t realize how important our diet is to our emotional and mental health.  We overlook what we put in our mouths and focus on the external stress factors.  Eating well will help.  Stress is an emotional reaction and can manifest in the physical and mental arenas of our lives.

An apple a day keeps the stress away (Robert Couse-Baker)

Too much refined sugar, caffeine, salt and dead food puts us on a mood swing roller coaster and does not provide the nourishment our minds and bodies need to be strong, quick and sharp.

11.    Get plenty of rest.  This is something I am still struggling with.  When I do sleep well I can tell the difference! (free)

Sleep is good for the soul!

The story behind the 11:

I thought I knew what stress was when attending graduate school... I soon realized graduate school was a Ferris wheel ride compared to the world of the working woman.  A few years after starting my career I got married and was pregnant within six weeks. I went back to work after 3.5 months of maternity leave and a year after returning I switched jobs to a more high paced, demanding role!!

I was OVERWHELMED!

I was also depressed (not really understanding depression) because I was not dealing with the new stress factors in my life very well.  New trying times call for new coping skills...I was using the old coping skills for new situations....It was not working!

There were health issues with my son, relationship issues with those surrounding me, and I felt so alone! I began to isolate myself in the name of peace/security but that was in vain and added to my strife, stress and anxiety.

Slowly but surely I began to "wake up".  I began to get involved in church activities again, I started exercising on a regular basis, eating better, I started working smarter on the job, re-awakened my artistic desires and dreams, and best of all started listening to God.  God is awesome and is always there to provide a positive/secure alternative.

I’m starting to realize my life's purpose...and that is because of this journey (even the unbearable parts).  Thankfully the stress laden activities have become less impactful.

What tips can you apply to your life??

Let me know what your experiences have been with coping with stress.
